KARLA BARRERA - PRESIDENT
Hiya! My name is Karla and I am currently a senior studying Public Health. Throughout my childhood, I had amazing nurses who assisted my little brother and I. The warmth and love I received from them encouraged me to want to serve others in that same way. My heart is geared towards orthopedics. Growing up, I witnessed nurses aid my little brother in his process of getting a prosthetic leg. There are so many children who practically live in hospitals, nurses play a huge role in their time being there! As a recipient of all the service and love I received from many of them, I feel compelled to do the same for others. Does that sound cringy? Maybe, but it’s the truth! Fun fact: I had over 25 doves when I was in 8th grade 😆... I also love crepes, hence the picture. (p.s Please stop by and say hello, we are so excited to start PNS once again!) |
HANA CATUDIO - VICE PRESIDENT My name is Hana, and I am a third year at Cal. I’m majoring in Psychology but completing my nursing prerequisites. My interest in nursing stems from volunteering when I was younger. When I was in middle school, I used to volunteer at the local hospital in my neighborhood. I remember being sent to the maternity unit to deliver a C-section kit and being in absolute awe of the wonderful nurses and doctors that were running around the ward taking care of the new mothers and babies. I remember wanting to be a part of that hustle and bustle. Seven years later, and I’m working towards that. I hope to become a nurse practitioner after graduating. Fun fact: I am a postpartum doula at the San Francisco General Hospital. |
ANNA LI - SECRETARY
Hi ya’ll! My name is Anna and I am a senior studying Integrative Biology. When I was younger I didn’t really think much about what I was going to become, I just knew that I wanted to be in the medical field and help people. But as I grew up and faced certain life circumstances, my experiences started to influence my passion for nursing. My dreams and goals started to become clear to me when I volunteered at an emergency room of a Children’s Hospital. Seeing the firsthand tasks of what nurses do made me realize that nurses are admirable for upholding the expectation and burden placed upon them, the resiliency it takes to care for someone, and the patience needed to work in the healthcare field. These are all qualities I want to possess some day when I become a nurse and hopefully be a role model to future pre-nursing students just like the nurses I saw in the emergency room are to me. Fun-Fact: I only like broccoli when it is fully cooked. If it is raw, I refuse to eat it even if the broccoli was served with ranch dressing. |
FAITH SY - SOCIAL MEDIA CHAIR
Hi everyone! I’m Faith and I am currently a senior majoring in Public Health. I have always been interested in pursuing a career somewhere in the health field and found myself more and more interested in pursuing nursing. I liked how nursing would allow me to have direct interaction with patients and how the practice itself focuses on the holistic care of the patient, rather than just being disease- or illness-focused. Many people’s experiences in a hospital or clinic setting, including mine, are often shaped by their experiences with nurses. I one day want to contribute to the same level of care and warmth I have received in these settings in the future as a nurse. At the moment, I am interested in working either as a labor and delivery or an OR nurse, but I am looking forward to exploring more specialties! My fun fact is that I love to play the guitar and recently bought an electric guitar! I am definitely just a casual, beginner player but I am slowly working my way towards learning a complete guitar solo and mastering the art of a good vibrato! |
